Laura Simmons joined Silverman Thompson as a partner in the Personal Injury group in January 2019, focusing her practice on personal injury and insurance law.
Since joining the Firm, Ms. Simmons has gained recognition for her individual attention and personal commitment to her clients. She is also known for her results-driven negotiation skills with insurance adjusters, largely due to her prior extensive experience in insurance defense litigation. She now applies her years of litigation experience to primarily represent plaintiffs in personal injury cases, where she has built a reputation for her detail-oriented, organized approach. Due to her detailed preparation in cases, Ms. Simmons is regarded in the greater Baltimore legal community for obtaining high settlements for her clients before trial.
Throughout her career, Ms. Simmons has handled numerous jury and non-jury trials throughout most of the jurisdictions in Maryland and in the District of Columbia. She has also handled administrative hearings at the Maryland Insurance Administration, binding arbitration proceedings and appellate briefings and arguments before the Appellate Court of Maryland.
Prior to joining Silverman Thompson, Ms. Simmons was a partner at an insurance defense litigation firm, where she exclusively practiced insurance defense in the areas of motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, premises liability, products liability, and construction defect. Ms. Simmons also worked for over eight years as an in-house trial attorney for Nationwide Insurance Company. She was in court several days a week for nearly 25 years. In addition to her extensive trial experience, Ms. Simmons has also taught and lectured in the areas of trial advocacy, civil litigation and claims handling, including serving as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Maryland School of Law, teaching First Year Legal Analysis & Writing in 2005.
Ms. Simmons consistently receives glowing feedback for taking a personal interest in her clients, as well as her empathy and care. She has a uniquely strong reputation for guiding clients new to the legal system through the processes, taking extreme care due to the sensitive nature of personal injury cases.
